Handmade Gifts for Gardeners

Standard

I need to take a little break from writing spiritually and as it is my pledge to support the handmade movement, I thought I’d make today’s post a little showcase of wonderful gift ideas you can get for the gardener in your life. I have been blessed to have some very special gardeners in my life (Nanna, Aunty, Chez, Diane) so I have been inspired to search out some beautiful ideas to share…

***One more time, I’d like to thank every participant in the challenge, whether you submitted one picture or twenty one, you have delighted me! I’m also very grateful to everyone who has been reading the blog, and I welcome my new readers and subscribers, you’re awesome.

And if you have missed my crazy antics in the time that I’ve been devoting the blog to the photography challenge, here is a short tale of The World’s Sneakiest Spider and a Psycho styled Shower Slaying. Obviously I was taking a shower, expecting my usual relaxing time out after a long day, when I picked up the soap…. low and behold there is a spider (not the world’s largest) but maybe the ugliest, and definitely the sneakiest, lying in wait for me between the soap, and the little spiky plastic soap rest we use (its meant to help you drain your soap so it doesn’t stay wet and it lasts longer) so if you don’t know what this is, just imagine a bed of nails… and the nails are short, and the spider is squeezed between the nails, and lying in wait for poor, naked, defenseless me. So I’m standing there thinking if this were any other place I’d kick into action, right, squash it with something, step on it… but I’m nude, barefoot (of course) and holding a piece of soap. Screaming ensues. I stand there screaming at this spider for five minutes until it decides to make a run for it and gets off the soap rest… just what I was waiting for, I pick up the bright yellow bed of nails and I use the end of it to smash this spider into the tiles over and over again yelling and pretty much cutting this thing into two. Oh yes, I kill with extreme malice, you ruin my shower, I ruin your life. So I’m working this thing in a stabbing action and I realise, I’m woman, right, I am WOMAN… you attack me in the shower, I’ll find a way. I will defend myself.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 21

Standard

Brace yourself, these are the photographs from day 21, the very last day of the challenge. I have had an amazing, wonderful time both participating and hosting this challenge and I hope whether you were involved in the challenge personally or just an observer, that you enjoyed it every bit as much. I want to thank my exceptional, inspirational photographers and I hope that you will still be using your cameras regularly, and if you are at a loose end (not likely this time of year) but if you are, and you don’t know what to do, maybe try picking up one of the books from the challenge if you have not already read them. Check them out online first though, since my taste is varied! Not everyone can get through the brutal honesty of  Something Happened (Joseph Heller). I’m also working on another book title themed challenge list for next year, so at least I have that to get me over the pangs of challenge withdrawal.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 19

Standard

Not day 19! This only goes for 21 days, I can’t face it! Even with everything I have going on in my life, and my ever growing to-do list I am not looking forward to the challenge ending. I can promise I will host another one next year, perhaps after the summer holidays end here in Australia so maybe in February or March? I am actually putting off making christmas crackers that I swear every year I will make, and I have a lot of work to do on both Starzyia and FizzyLove, holiday shopping to do, and an office makeover to achieve. I bet you are now thinking about your to-do list, so sorry about that, but let’s get through this together. What’s on your list? What tasks do you dread, and which can be classed as enjoyable for you? What can you reward yourself with? I often reward myself for a day of hard online work with the world’s silliest treat – facebook game time – silly because after sitting at the desk for so long, I sit at it some more!

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 18

Something Happened! Well yes, many things each day, and we are getting increasingly busy, so for now here is a late post for Day 18: Something Happened, and if I get any more pictures later I will update. Personally I am very excited to be working hard on my new business FizzyLove which is open on zazzle, and FizzyLoveStarry which will soon be open on etsy, I’ll tell you all about my inspiration and creative direction when the challenge is over.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 17

Standard

Well we are rapidly approaching the finish line, it really does seem to me that the days are passing more quickly now than they were at the beginning. Freaky! Fortunately today’s photographs provided me with some contented sighs, moments of magical enchantment, and some unexpected LOL moments, and I needed all of these, thank you.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 16

Sweet Sixteen…. and I’d like to say how great it is that my super troopers get out there and take photographs each day, or as many days as they can, and support each other and nurture each others’ creativity with kindness. When we share our photographs we are sharing a special part of our heart, and we’d like to thank you also for not trampling on our hearts, we appreciate it.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 15

Standard

Day 15? No way! This challenge has been quite the odyssey for my intrepid photographer friends, and I was reminded of that when I saw the words of Samara Maddison who posted the definition of odyssey on the event wall “a long journey during which many things happen”. It got me thinking about all the things we have done along our challenge journey. I personally have ranged from the mundane – eating a forbidden piece of cake, looking up the phone book, hanging a load of clean laundry – to exploring the more macabre side of my nature by creating a death to former lover magic spell and possibly killing Barbie (I am innocent until proven guilty, I still say I found her like that). So if this challenge has had you out and about doing things you wouldn’t normally do, or has made you look at your daily activities in a new and interesting way, then I am so very glad.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 14

Standard

Oh-oh only a week to go, luckily this time of year provides plenty of opportunities to take great photographs and I will try to take a photo every day, how about you? How attached are you to your camera – is it something sitting there collecting dust? do you take your camera with you everywhere? is it something you can’t live without? is it pried out of your hands at the end of the day or do you sleep with it? Okay I’m guessing not many people said yes to the last one. I’d love to know what kind of camera you are using, whether you are a challenge participant or just reading the blog for fun. I’m only using a little Ricoh 8 to capture all my images seen here and in my online stores, but it is beginning to have some troubles maybe from having such a grueling life with me, and I’m looking at getting a Nikon D3200 so I can advance a little more in my photography but not get in over my head.

Anyway, without further delay, Day 14: All The Names
