Announcing: the Starzyia Daily Photography Challenge starts February 1st and runs until the 21st February, 2013. If you followed the challenge from last year here on the blog, and wish you had been involved, now is time to think about joining in for this year, and I would love it if you did participate. One major change to the format is that this year you can enter as an individual, or as part of a small team or family – so if you are afraid you can’t keep up with the challenge by yourself, why not ask your friends, family, or co-workers if they are interested?
For the benefit of those who aren’t familiar with the format of the challenge, the concept is to sumbit one photograph taken each day for the 21 days (or as many days as you possibly can) fitting the theme – they are all popular book titles, just like last year – you simply interpret & capture what the theme means to you, in your life, or the world around you. The most important thing is that you can not take photographs in advance – no matter how tempting certain fleeting opportunities may be, or how great a photograph you have tucked away in your files may fit the theme – photos must be taken on the day – this is the challenge of rising to the occasion and making the most of what you have on hand around you each day. It teaches you to grow your imagination and see ordinary things in new ways. Although you can’t use photos you already have, or take them in advance, you are allowed to play catch up if you miss a day.
What happens with your photos? You pick your best photo each day, and you can post it directly on the facebook event wall, or send it to the facebook Starzyia page in a PM. I will gather all the photos each day of the challenge and publish them here on the Starzyia blog. You will retain copyright of your work, and be named as the artist on record, and you are welcome to protect your work using a visible watermark.
Each day I collect and publish the photographs from the day before (to allow time for my international participants to submit in time for publication), however you can still submit your photographs after the blog post goes live, I will happily add your work, the more the merrier!
Photographs do need to be suitable for general exhibition, so if I cannot safely show your photograph to a five year old child, please rethink your content, I intend this to be a family friendly event, and young photographers are welcome to join in.
Individuals: when you join the challenge, please let me know the name you want your photographs to be published as – whether you as a person or your business/professional name, either is fine.
Teams: please, before the challenge starts, give your team a name, I will use the team name for each blog post, but you can also have the individual team member’s name included with the photograph – make sure each day when you submit your photograph I know if you want the name published and which team member is responsible for the photograph.
