Father-Daughter showcase Australian Native

Standard

Not long ago my father asked me to come out to his studio and photograph his latest completed painting, and I was happy to come and help out, and very excited when I saw that his painting included some native flowers I had only just photographed independently. I hadn’t seen his work in progress and he hadn’t seen my photos. In case you are wondering his painting includes bottle brush, banksia and eucalyptus macrocarpa (my photographs are solely of the mottlecah aka eucalyptus marcrocarpa) Here is a look at the art of Arthur Raston, and my photographs together…

Starzyia Photography Challenge, finale, to each her own

Standard

Wow, its really the end of the Starzyia Daily Photography Challenge #1 of 2013… how can three weeks pass by in the blink of an eye? (or a camera shutter, whichever you prefer!) I have so much to be grateful for and I’d like to take a few moments to humbly express my thanks. First of all I am so happy that a loyal band of intrepid photographers were willing to get out there every day and give it their best. That’s awesome! I was hoping for photographers of all skill levels and I even offered the chance for junior photographers and families to get involved and I’m thrilled that nine year old Jade joined in, and even though we didn’t have teams, I can see how families were still a big part of the challenge, providing inspiration, posing as subjects, and also helping create scenes. Along this journey we have shared our families, pets, homes, gardens, work, dreams, sense of humour, and sense of beauty – it does not get more personal than that, and it has been a great way to get to know each other, so thank you for being so willing to share and for making the challenge so great.

Of course the next big thank you has to go to all the friends and family members who supported the photographers during the challenge, and to everyone who has been supporting us here on the Starzyia blog by reading, clicking like, sharing, and for being so supportive and never, ever negative in response – I see so often online photography critiques and feedback can cross the line and hurt feelings, I like having this blog as a safe place for us to grow, so thanks for being your generous and kindly selves.

If you are sitting there thinking, ‘I really should have got involved’, I hope you will consider joining in the next challenge, which may be late this year (think October or November) or if not, definitely next year because I have some ideas tucked away for themes and they’re burning a hole in my camera bag (I was going to say pocket).

And for one last collection of photographs, we each chose our own book title to photograph as a kind of finale…

From a cursed soul, to a modern day bride who kicks ass and gets things done, pets with attitude (please meet Mint Sauce the sheep and Pom Pom the hen), and the beautiful gracious garden offering her flowers… we honour The Woman in White

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 16, hide and seek

Standard

‘Hide and Seek’ brings many things to my mind – memories of childhood games (and playing as an adult with my nieces and nephews, pretending I can’t find them when they have chosen the world’s most obvious hiding place!), looking for lost keys, searching for something sometimes when I don’t even know what it is (the old ‘I”ll know it when I see it), and the beauty of discovering something that is so well hidden it may have been easily overlooked. I can see I am not alone, because of the wonderful efforts of the challenge photographers today, and I hope you enjoy today’s photographs…

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 15, she’s come undone

Standard

From things coming loose, breaking, coming unfastened, and various states of undress… She’s Come Undone has got it all! I did quickly rule out my possible interpretation of a self portrait looking gaga… not sure the world is ready for that, or maybe I’m just not ready. So here they are, the collected works of day 15

As we are now in the final week of the challenge, I’d like to take a moment and say thank you so much to everyone who has been supporting us by visiting the blog, looking at all the posts, and for being so great about clicking the like button, we appreciate you so much. Its also very, very awesome that once again we have not had any negative comments, or critiques, that makes it so enjoyable and its nice to have a safe environment to express ourselves, you’re the best!

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 14, Beloved

Standard
Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 14, Beloved

In keeping with Valentine’s Day, yesterday we had the theme ‘Beloved’ and I really enjoyed it, not having my own valentine (unless you count my dog Fizzy) I got to see what other’s are cherishing in their lives and how they express this feeling or how it has been expressed to them. Plus I decided I would make a tribute to my parents and used my mother’s hands in my latest Love Leaves photo shoot and give my parents the print for their anniversary next month. So here we have the Beloved…

Starzyia Photography Challenge, days 12 & 13

Standard
Starzyia Photography Challenge, days 12 & 13

Yes, I’m sorry, I missed a day, here are two days in one post for an extra hit of pleasure. Day 12: A Spot of Bother had us playing with all kinds of things, and also discovering our clothes on the wrong way (come on, we’ve all done something like that!). Day 13 had us exploring what running might entail.

by the way, I was most unimpressed with those shoes, the soles split the first week, I was going along and I realized my feet were miserably wet, then I realized they were only wet underneath… I kept the shoes though because I wear them to chop firewood – no point getting my good (and by that I mean quality) running shoes filthy doing that.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 11, a pair of blue eyes

Standard

Be warned… if you think clowns are scary/creepy/the stuff of horror movies… then please, don’t scroll down (okay, you just scrolled down didn’t you? just can’t help yourself? I am still talking!) Welcome to day 11, named after the Thomas Hardy novel ‘A Pair of Blue Eyes’.

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 10, her fearful symmetry

Standard

Okay, I confess, I may be a little bit too hooked on symmetry…. and there was a time when something messing up an arrangement I made would be very disturbing to my mental comfort. I might have been a little bit too afraid to deliberately wear something asymmetrical, or have an odd numbered grouping, and so on. That’s why the title to Audrey Niffenegger’s second novel ‘Her Fearful Symmetry’ jumped out at me in the book store, and why I HAD to buy it immediately. I am however learning to appreciate that beauty and chaos can go hand in hand, and I even created my first asymmetrical pair of earrings last year for my Starzyia shop (want to see the Dream Flight earrings?)

Anyway I’m only too happy to explore all forms of the theme Her Fearful Symmetry, and I hope you enjoy the efforts of the participants today!

Starzyia Photography Challenge, day 9, hard times

Standard

Here’s a theme that seems to be all around us these days, ‘hard times’, so easy to see the signs and it means to many things to so many people from the drudgery of housework, to pain and suffering, things laying to waste…
